BEACON HEIGHTS CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN
GOALS FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM
Adopted by Church Board February 27,
1999
Preface: The Board reaffirms the
Purpose statement included in our church Constitution, Article II, which
reads as follows:
The Church is the body of Christ, divine
in nature, created as a family of believers responding to the
unconditional love of God for all people. The purpose of the Church is
mission, as Jesus commanded in the Great Commission: "Go, make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them all as I have commanded
you." The mission may be defined as having an inner and an outer
focus. The inner mission of the Church is to nurture its people toward
a deeper commitment to Christ, to the Church, to Christ's lifestyle,
and to the world. The outer mission is the expression of those
commitments, sharing the good news of Christ through proclamation and
service.
BEACON HEIGHTS GOALS:
1. Beacon Heights is a church where
everyone is welcomed, by:
- Welcoming and supporting diverse
members and guests.
- Developing a connecting strategy
for visitors and prospective members. This includes developing a
mentor system for new members.
- Providing resources for training
in hospitality and inviting skills.
2. Beacon Heights nurtures all people in
Christian discipleship by:
- Developing "Care and
Share" strategies that include small groups.
- Planning all-inclusive church
activities which build community.
- Developing a strategy for
homebound visitation.
3. Beacon Heights intentionally integrates
spirituality into all aspects of our lives and church by:
- Supporting and encouraging people
to openly share their faith stories.
- Fostering a greater understanding
of Brethren beliefs, ordinances and traditions.
- Expanding the understanding and
experience of prayer.
4. Beacon Heights makes worship the
central aspect of congregational life by:
- Creating a Worship Task Force to
explore elements of contemporary worship and ways to include them
in congregational worship. This will include exploring the value
of a second or complementary worship service.
- Creating a Worship Team to
actively assist in worship planning. (Members will be encouraged
to be on both of the above)
5. Beacon Heights actively pursues peace,
justice, service, and outreach by:
- Exploring ways to address violence
in Ft. Wayne.
- Becoming more involved with people
of diverse racial, economic or life situations.
- Maintaining our strong pre-school
program by supporting its new directors.
6. Beacon Heights embraces growth through
eagerly and openly telling Christ's story by:
- Sharing with others that Beacon
Heights continues the work of Jesus - simply, peacefully,
together.
- Systematically promoting church
activities and practices beyond the congregation (including
advertisements).
- Being open to God's direction for
the changes that accompany growth.
